Apologies to members of this group. We had a spammer who signed up the USMS forum and was sending out emails to other members. That person using two different names has been banned. This was a first time thing so not sure if it makes sense to require all members to be approved by the me as the administrator first -- I know for myself I've liked with other sites of being to able respond to a posting right away rather than waiting around to register. As it is I can't seem to find how on a ning I can create that hoop to jump through. Any opinions on this?
On the STEP list we had some spam problems early on, so now when someone ask to join, I email them and ask them to write a short one sentence reason why they want to join. This discourages almost all spammers. If they reply and their reason makes sense, then they are approved.
